As a younger cadet under “Don’t Inquire, Really don’t Tell”—the former U.S. coverage that restricted LGBTQ+ People from overtly serving in the military—Gina Ortiz Jones was pressured to disguise her id as a lesbian. Jones, who now proudly serves as Below Secretary of the Air Drive and is the first female of coloration in the function and the initially out lesbian beneath secretary of any armed service branch, spoke on Tuesday at Fortune’s Most Strong Girls summit in Laguna Niguel, Calif. about her aim of producing the armed forces much more inclusive, “ensuring our people can provide to their whole possible.”
